Chapter 2

Biology left me with little choices for my career -either to become a doctor or do nothing. Anyways as the decision was made by God (How? read chapter 1!) I had no other option but to go ahead. But never did I know that this will be my worst decision for my career and my life. I tried my best to get into medicals but destiny has got its own ways! I was denied a place in medical schools and I was compelled to go into a stream which I once mocked at- B.Pharm. I took AIEEE exam just for the sake of having one option (for bio students having one option is a great thing!). As my preparations for medicals were at striking distance and destiny was also playing its games, I solved the paper with ease and was got through. I did not want to screw my years so I decided to go to BIT mesra. BIT mesra is a very reputed name in the field of engineering study and many other streams. I was also mistook its reputation for engineering for B. pharm and went there with a dream of at least getting a good placement after four years. Destiny was making its moves very cleverly! But I was not the only one who was fooled into this B.Pharm thing, there were 30 other also.

There at the time of admissions I met with Vijendra, Chandan, Prabhat,, & Sadaf.A little bit of character description will be apt I suppose – looked cool to me as a very lively boy with lots of energy; Prabhat looked just the opposite . I didn’t gave much attention to Chandan but was a tall & muscular boy But it was Sadaf whom I did not like at all. He was from sainik School tillaiya , and was very proud. I and Vijendra became instant friends and were joking away to glory! We were given rooms in a dormitory as temporary arrangement as rooms were not vacant. There were 10 more students living there. We did not like the dorm initially but as you know what you don’t like initially might turn out to be the best thing you would ever get!

I brought my belongings next morning and shifted to my bed. There I saw one boy rigorously polishing his shoes. He was lean and thin and wearing a gamcha (towel but very thin). I just ignored him and started to get ready for my first class! I took out my pair of jeans and shirt to wear when that lean and thin boy said “Are you going to wear this for class?” I said “Yes! What else? This is college and here we don’t have any uniform or do we?” This introduced me one of the deadliest reality of engineering college- Ragging! The boy told me the being a fresher there are dictums to be followed made by the “mentors” (read seniors!). We have to wear formals with black shoes and hairs dripped in oil! The whole idea made me sick but had no option. I never had firsthand experience of ragging but had a nightmarish one second-hand! My elder bro had told me many instances of ragging n was screed from that.. So I decided not to take panga on the first day and searched frantically my bag for any formals. Luckyly I got one pant and I had many shirts as I loved white shirts. So, I was ready with Rakesh to go to colleges ( yes..the boy’s name was Rakesh, from deoghar ..a bit of ganwar type but I liked him for his straightforwardness.)

chapter 1

I was one of the most confused person on earth! Meet Me – I am Ashish , now as Ashish Singh in my professional life.

She was one of the most confident girl you will ever find! Meet Parul( name changed for obvious reasons) sweet but extremely ambitious girl .

So as you can see from the introduction It was another “love Impossible ” combination! But as rightly said by Mr Bacchan( Amitabh ? who else) that truth is stranger than fiction and so it is .

So now a bit of historical figures about the main characters to understand them better. As I have already said that I was a confused person , to substantiate this I was a student of Math and Biology in 12th ! This explains my confused status. Moreover I was not sure whether i want to continue in math or Bio. This does not mean that I was a dull student!( I never said that).I had got 87% in my 10th which confirms my status as a reasonably good student.

But as any teenager who go out to study after 10th , i also screwed my 12th and got 67% . So, to remove my confusion GOD himself has to intervene! I just passed in Math in boards exam and got reasonably good marks in bio. So, I decided to take Bio as main and started preparing for my medical exams. This was the first step that I took towards HER( yes! you forgot this is a love story not a career councelling) as She was also studing Bio.

Love In BIT mesra!!!(Part I)

PREFACE

This can be any other love story -but this one is special for me, as this involves me as the PROTAGONIST. This story has got all the ingredients which you can find in any love story-  a Girl( beautiful of course!),a BOY(can’t say the same for him!), some villains , twists n turns , drama, and a TRAGIC END to spice up things.

Then you must be thinking why should you read another love story which has nothing new to offer? So my dear friend, I don’t want you; and for the matter of fact anybody reading this except the Girl involved! ( I will tell you the reason if you have the courage and stamina to read the whole thing!! Sorry have to do this).Till then I can divulge this much that this is purely being written for a self discovery and recalling the most important days of my life.

DISCLAIMER

This whole journey will have certain characters and some places and resemblance of those to any person living or dead will be purely INTENTIONAL and nothing else.

Next in the line is “Me” ! Yes! I would like to thank myself for taking out time from my busy banking schedule to pen down my thoughts.

I would also like to thank my lappy and my net for supporting me and providing me the required infrastructure to give structure to my haphazard thoughts.

And last but not the least, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to ICICI Bank( my current employer) for making my life hell and compelling me to go to my past to recall some happy moments( Sorry Chanda Ma’m But its a fact!!)

NOTE: For all those who want to know about life in BIT mesra , you will discover the whole reality about bit mesra n ICICI bank If you will read the whole thing.

Whats there in an NRI!!!!

This is my desperate attempt to persuade my angel not to go away to some foolish NRI . I know you are a girl of today n hence I am putting forward my logics why you should not choose an NRI over ……

As this is a time of recession which could well be larger than the Great Depression of thirties, so there is no logic in going for an NRI . Moreover here you are working n doing quite well. If you go for an NRI you will have to quite yourjob and find a new one in another world. As you know finding a job at this point of time in another world will be the most difficult thing in the world. It does not end there, that NRI chap will have to struggle to keep his job secured.

These were the financial aspects. coming to the emotional aspects. You will have to leave  your own place and go in totally alien place. You never know how these NRI’s will behave . You will be alienated from your family.

But most important thing is that I don’t want you to go!

For the Angel of my life!!

I have an angel, who does not have wing,
Musical quintessence without any string.
Flowers bloom; but it is not spring!
Feeling regal; Am I in dream?

To be a canary one need not fly,
I found elixir when land was dry.
Bliss struck me without any try!
Will this vanish in a blink of an eye?

To see hell one need not die;

Tears galore, one need  not cry!

Life is falling , how much I try.

I am nothing , how much I lie!

Professional Journalism!

Last night Indian Cricket team won the Compaq cup tri series in Sri Lanka and the whole media wasabuz with praise for the the Indian team. This made me think how fickle can the media be. In the span of 4 days they have completed the full circle by claiming this team to be the best to calling the “Desh Drohi” i.e. traitors and again coming back to ” dhan te nan” of indian team.

On 12th the indian cricket team became the first indian team to gain the first spot in ICC ranking. Anywhere you go from one news channel to other you will find the same story of India achieving this extraordinary position. Day after India lost an unimportant match against Sri lanka misrebly and it slipped to the third position. Now one channel named ” India Tv” started a programme about how indian team members were busy shopping and pictures of the relaxing in a swimming pool splashing all over. They even went on to call the team a traitor. I was shocked to see this behaviour from a national telivison. How can they call the cricketers “Desh Drohi’ when a day before they have proved to the world that they are the No one team. They did not stop there again when India defeated Sri Lanka in all important final on monday, they again started singing “Dhan te Nan” and hailing this team as the best ever.

All these events led me to think what kind of journalism is this. Is this what they call “Professional journalism”. When one team achieves the top spot even for one day, it is because of continued good work and persistance. you people who have done nothing but spread rumours and made stories about nothing will never understand this.

One thing I will like to say at end that there are many stories which needs to be highlighted so please start covering those rather than going about and making stories.

The most fortunate person on earth!!

2355Yes , I m the most fortunate person to get posting in “The Heaven”which we mortals call as SIWAN. The heaven has a radius of 1 Km ! Yes U read it right 1km !! The people are just equivalent to “angles ” . But as u know I dont understand the language of “angles ” So there is some problem! The city is the most happening city u will ever come accross. Roadside bars are ample in number and to add to its beauty u will find lots of “divine animals” (cows, Bulls etc…) If u r jealuse already then hold ur breath as I havn’t told abt the night life. Here u will feel what exactly Nightlife is! No power in the evening makes the night truly DARK. And last but not the least is the melodious sound of cute little bloodsucking creatures (mosquitoes if u havent understood!)
I think I have divulged enough ! Let me enjoy my stay at this “PARADISE”!

ICICI Not going to be bankrupt.

There is a lot of rumors about ICICI bank going bankrupt owing to the disturbances seen in the US market. Recently Lehman Brother’s went bankrupt and reportedly ICICIbank had a large share in that . So this has led to people believing that this the end for the second largest bank of India. I am an Assistant manager at ICICI bank and I can assure you all that these are just rumors and nothing else.

You might think that I am trying to protect my bank but I am not stating it without facts. The fact is that the stakes in Lehman Brother’s of ICICI was just 0.1% of the total assets held by ICICI. It is not more than a weeks profit that ICICI generated last year. Moreover, the bank is maintaining 13.5% capital adequacy as compared to the requirement of 9%. So, ICICI bank is very much liquid at this time. In addition to this The Bank is also maintaining its CRR with RBI.

Coming back to the Lehman Brother’s case, the company has invested about 80 millions in the disgraced company but it is not something new in bank’s business to face such bankruptcies. Banks maintain some provision for bad debt and bankruptcies in their balance sheets. Moreover the company is estimating a 50% recovery in this case also. So. the net loss to the company is only $28 million which is just like peanuts for a Bank of stature of ICICI. If you are not convinced yet you can look at the statement issued by our JMD Chanda Kochhar on this issue. The link is this

EURO 2008 FINAL-SPAIN ALL THE WAY

Euro 2008It was Spain all the way as they lifted the Euro 2008 trophy after 44 years. They beat Germany by 1goal to nil in the final of European Championship 2008. The golden goal came from the boots of Fernando Torres of Liverpool in the 33rd minute of the play.Micheal Ballack came again in the loosing side in the final for the fifth time. The standard of the final was not on the expected one as Germany relied more on foul play than real skill. But nevertheless, Spain-the best team of Euro 2008, were at there attacking best and deserved to be the Champions of the Euro 2008 edition.

The 69 years old Spain coach Luis Aragonés became the oldest coach to enable a team lift the trophy. The game started on the expected line as Spain attacked from the word go. Fernando Torres came close to scoring early with his header which was denied by the post. Then in the 33rd minute he received a long pass on which he showed great skill and speed along with presence of mind to tap it over the German goalkeeper into the goal. This lapse in defense proved too costly for Germany as they could not get their act together for rest of the game and lost eventually.

Germany were unusual in their play as they were committing far too many fouls led by their captain Ballack. Ballack who was only half fit was involved in many fouls and brats on the ground. He got injured in the game also and received a yellow card. Germany got their bits of chances in the second half when they attacked consistently for four or five times. But after that it was Spain who held the possession and came close to scoring. At the end it was heartbreak for the German fans and rejoice for Spain as they got their hand on the Euro cup after 44 years.

So, Let Spain rejoice in this victory as they deserved this trophy and the glory!
